The year was 1999... the month was December. Y2K would soon set us back into the stone age. But no matter what would happen to the worlds computers, the Wisconsin Badgers were confident that they would play their game against Stanford in the Rose Bowl on January 1st, 2000. They played - and won - and thousands of Badger Fans invaded the Los Angeles area to set yet another mark on the pages of football fan migration pattern history! Well... it just so happened that two movie producers, Brad Metzger (originally from Wisconsin) and Miguel de la Lama (from LA, CA), were there to capture the fan frenzy on video and they produced the outstanding Wisconsin Badger Fan movie "W2K The Movie". I met them in Green Bay, Wisconsin earlier in the year when they were shooting footage for the Green Bay Packer fan movie "Our Pack" - another production of theirs. They were gracious enough to ask me to write theme songs for these two movies. You know... epic ballads... heartfelt prideprodders. And... deep down I didn't know if I could write songs to do these movies justice, but something came over me and the songs revealed themselves to me. I really feel blessed to have written them. The entry here is - "Wisconsin Proud!" (and the Packer song is "We Are Packer Fans!" - to be featured in another weeks entry).
One of my affirmative thoughts for the "Wisconsin Proud!" song is that it endures as a Badger Fan Classic. In the movie version of the song I had the words "Rose Bowl" in the lyrics. Of course that limits the song to football and the past bowl setup. So... I pulled out that lyric and made a new recording that lifts the song into the universal realm... into the holistic Badger Fan experience, no matter what sport, no matter what era.
