I spent one summer in the '70's going to grad school at the University of Texas - El Paso. As you may know, just across the Rio Grande river from El Paso is the city of Juarez, Mexico. Hence, El Paso has a distinctly Mexican flavor in many ways and is, in my opinion, quite different than most other cities in Texas. Sunny, warm, dry, open spaces close by.
Fast forward to late December of that same year and I'm looking out of my bedroom window at an ice covered driveway and feeling a wave of cold claustrophobia flowing through my veins and a whisp of "there's gotta be a better way" floating through my mind. I had just started writing songs around that time and this one was born from that years experiences. It's the first "good" song I felt that I had written. It holds a special place in my memory because my father really liked the song and he never got a chance to hear most of my songs. Looking back I know now that he was a dreamer at heart. Well, here it is.. finally with a recording and arrangement I'm happy with. Dream away.......

Lyrics...
Down Mexico Way
Verse 1: Down Mexico way It's a clear sunny day And my pretty senorita She looks into my eyes And my troubles drift away
The skys so bright and blue Feels like heaven shining through And as I hold my senorita She whispers in my ear: "Yes, I love you"
Chorus: But I'm only dreamin' 'Bout a brighter day When I'll be with my senorita again And as the snow flies Past my window pane My heart longs for the day I'm back down Mexico way
Verse 2: Down Mexico way It'a a clear sunny day And I sip on my tequila Close my sleepy eyes Dream the afternoon away
I feel the balmy breeze Hear songbirds singing in the trees And as I raise my lazy eyes My senorita smiles and says she wants me
Bridge: Well, one of these days I'm gonna take that big bird and fly Back where the days are warm And back in my senoritas arms
